Since its incorporation as a nonprofit organization in 1942, Harrison has been guided by a volunteer board of directors who chart the long-range course of the hospital. Board members represent diverse backgrounds and professional skills, but they share a dedication to our community and its good health, most especially its access to quality healthcare.
Some of the board's major accomplishments include the acquisition and development of Harrison South Kitsap and Harrison Silverdale, and the modernization of the main hospital in Bremerton, with the addition of our Radiation Oncology Center, and the $13 million ER expansion and renovation. The board guided us in our decision to bring open-heart surgery to the region in 2003.
Setting the course not only for Harrison's physical growth but the tone of its relationships, they've worked to strengthen the links between the hospital and its physicians. The board spearheaded the creation of our mission statement, uniting all of us at Harrison in a common purpose. They have addressed issues relating to state and national healthcare reform.
They truly are the voice of the community within the walls of the hospital.
