David A. Veterane, Chair

Bainbridge Island resident David A. Veterane has served on Harrison’s board of directors since 2003. He is a retired founding partner of Rainier Investment Management and the Bainbridge Community Foundation board. He is a board member on the newly established Kossoye Project that promotes family gardens and simple community health initiatives in Ethiopia.

Fred Barrett

Fred Barrett of Allyn joined the board in May 2011. For 30 years, Fred has successfully developed market-driven software products and services for both start-up and established companies. Fred founded Allyn Technology Group, Inc., a company that's leading innovation in supply chain visibility and energy smart grid technologies for business and residential electric customers. He is an active Rotarian and serves as board president for both the Pacific Northwest Salmon Center and the North Mason Education Foundation.

Griffith Blackmon, MD, MPH

Griffith Blackmon, MD, MPH, of Poulsbo, is a pulmonologist and partner at Kitsap Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine. He joined Harrison’s board of directors in 2007.

James T. Civilla, Vice Chair

Jim Civilla has served on Harrison’s board of directors since 2005. The Port Orchard resident also volunteers for the South Kitsap School District, participates in Relay for Life, and coaches youth sports. He is the treasurer and part owner of Westbay Auto Parts, Inc.

Carl Cramer

Carl Cramer’s tenure on Harrison’s board of directors began in 1999. The president and chief executive officer of Farrell’s Health Centers Inc., Cramer also serves on the Kitsap Family YMCA Foundation board, and on the Kitsap Bank board of directors. He lives in Bremerton.

Gordon N. Cromwell, Jr., MD, FACS, Chief of Staff (Medical Staff)

Gordon N. Cromwell, Jr., MD, FACS, is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon at Peninsula Orthopaedic Associates in Bremerton, serving on Harrison's Joint Quality Conference, Medical Staff Quality, and Perioperative Executive committees. He also is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. A Seabeck resident, Dr. Cromwell has participated in local, state, and national medical and community groups for more than three decades.

Mary Garguile

Mary Garguile, Vice President of Instruction at Olympic College, became a Harrison board member in 2006. The Bremerton resident is President of ACCESS, a national organization for Associate Degree Early Childhood Educators; and is a member of the Bremerton Central Lions. She has been recognized as a YWCA Woman of Achievement, and while at Olympic College earned the Jennie Mae Moyer Administrator Award and the Bremer Exceptional Faculty Award.

Ruth Hansten, RN, PhD, MBA, FACHE

Ruth Hansten, RN, PhD, MBA, FACHE, is a healthcare administration consultant. The Port Ludlow resident is the creator of the Relationship & Results Oriented Healthcare (RROHC) philosophy and practices that guide Harrison nursing care. She has been in the nursing profession in healthcare systems and in communities since 1974. She is a published author of nursing topics and a noted national speaker about nursing issues.

Gregory S. Henderson, MD, PhD

Gregory S. Henderson, MD, PhD, of Bainbridge Island, joined the board in May 2009 and serves on the Planning and Governance committees. Dr. Henderson also currently serves as president and medical director of Pathology Associates of Kitsap County and as medical director of Harrison Medical Center Laboratory. His many community efforts include post-Hurricane Katrina work in New Orleans, and women's healthcare events about breast cancer, cervical cancer prevention, and awareness of HPV-related diseases.

Ronald Muhleman

Ron Muhleman, Director of Operations for the Kitsap Sun, has served on Harrison’s board of directors since 1994 and chaired the board from 2002 to 2005. The Bremerton resident is an member of the Bremerton and Olympic Peninsula Navy League and serves on the board of the Salvation Army. He is the past president of Bremerton Area Chamber of Commerce and an active member and past president of the East Bremerton Rotary board. Ron was a recipient of the Bremerton Chamber's Thunderbird Award.

Kelly R. Nelson, CPA

Kelly R. Nelson, CPA, of Kingston joined the Harrison board of directors in April 2010. She has nearly 18 years of experience as a certified public accountant and has been the managing member of Nelson Accounting Professionals, PLLC, of Poulsbo since 2002.

Nelson also serves as treasurer of the Harrison Medical Center Foundation Board and sponsors numerous nonprofit organizations. She is a member of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Kitsap County Estate Planning Council.

James L. Smalley, Secretary/Treasurer

James Smalley of Gig Harbor joined Harrison’s board of directors in 1997. A senior vice president of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, the Gig Harbor resident also serves on the Kitsap County Art Council and volunteers for the Home Builders Association of Kitsap County and the Northwest Lions Eye Bank.

Joan Soriano

Bremerton resident Joan Soriano has served on the Harrison board of directors since 1972, and chaired the board from 1984 to 1987. Active in community service, she’s also involved in the Bremerton Symphony Association, the Literacy Council, the East Bremerton Rotary, and the Olympic College Nursing Advisory Committee. She was the Bremerton Area Chamber of Commerce president from 1993 to 1994. She is a recipient of the Bremerton Chamber’s Thunderbird Award in 1997 and was recognized by the YWCA as a Woman of Achievement in 1999.

Linda Streissguth, AICP

Linda Streissguth has built a strong reputation meeting the needs of customers, communities, and commerce interests throughout Kitsap and surrounding counties. She joined our board in August 2011, bringing a strong background of community service experience. She’s the former chair and a current member of the City of Bremerton Planning Commission, vice-chair of the Bremerton Housing Authority board of commissioners, and a board member of the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce. Linda, a Bremerton resident, currently serves at the manager of Local Government & Community Relations at Puget Sound Energy (PSE). She’s been with PSE and its predecessor, Puget sound Power & Light for 30 years, involved with marketing, conservation, real estate, land planning, and community services.

Rick Tift

Rick Tift, MBA, is the executive director for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility. He has received numerous awards during his career, including two Navy Meritorious Civilian awards. Each year, the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility Chapter of the Naval Civilian Managers Association selects one leader within the organization that exemplifies their positive work environment with a diverse, professional, and dedicated purpose. In 2010, Tift was selected as the 2010 NCMA Manager of the Year. Nominated by a member of his staff, he was described as the type of leader that "stands apart as an example for others to emulate.

A resident of Bremerton, Tift is a member of the Downtown Bremerton Rotary Club and the Bremerton and Olympic Peninsula Navy League. He also serves on the board of Leadership Kitsap.

John Wallen, Immediate Past Chair

Bremerton’s John Wallen has served on Harrison’s board of directors since 2004. He's vice president and principal of DiMartino Associates in Seattle. John also is a member of the Peninsula Services board of directors.
