Prostate Cancer: Common, yet treatable
Prostate cancer is the second most common type of cancer among men in the U.S, according to the National Cancer Institute. Nearly 220,000 men will develop prostate cancer this year. And more than 32,000 of them will die from the disease. It’s vitally important for men to learn the risk factors, signs, and symptoms because prostate cancer is highly treatable if detected early.
We encourage patients to take an active part in their healthcare and make decisions that are right for them with the help of a family doctor and Harrison Medical Center’s oncology specialists.
September is National Prostate Cancer Awareness month. To recognize the value of awareness and early detection, Harrison will offer a free community education session on Sept. 29. The National Football League and the American Urological Association also have teamed up to present a national awareness campaign. More >> |

Surveyor's noted Harrison's:
- Ability to cater to the individual needs of patients.
- Effectiveness in using best practice nursing staffing to assure the appropriate clinical resources for patients.
- Staff friendliness and willingness to share information, which reflected passion, knowledge, and technical skill.
- Staff focus on enhancing the healthcare environment.
- Cleanliness of all five locations.
The Joint Commission is an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 17,000 healthcare organizations and programs in the U.S. The Joint Commission is recognized nationwide as a symbol of quality that establishes national standards for hospitals and monitors their progress. Harrison has been accredited by the Joint Commission since 1972.
