Cardiovascular Services
Harrison Heart & Vascular exemplifies heart care at its best! Our cardiologists are leaders in cardiovascular diagnosis, treatment, prevention and education. Our physicians provide the highest level of cardiovascular care to patients through their expertise without driving to Seattle.
Heart care at Harrison frequently begins with a visit to our nationally renowned Emergency Department. In this Level III trauma center our “pit crew” rapidly assesses and treats those suspected of having a heart attack. In this innovative chest-pain clinic, our average “door-to-balloon” time—that critical period between arrival and lifesaving treatment—ranks among the best in the nation.

Our board-certified cardiologists and cardiac surgeons are skilled at the most advanced technologies—including state-of-the-art electrophysiology—to perform less-invasive, or even non-invasive, therapies. If surgery is necessary, we offer lifesaving angioplasty and specially equipped surgery suites for heart valve and coronary artery bypass surgeries.
Based on patient outcomes, Harrison's cardiac surgery program has been ranked No. 1 in the state for 2007 by HealthGrades. This measure by the leading healthcare quality ratings company places us among the top 10 percent in the nation for cardiac surgery. That’s the result of our exceptional team of cardiologists, surgeons, technologists, and nurses specially trained in the care of a heart patient—and the individualized care every patient receives.
In the rare instance that a patient requires complex specialty surgical services—such as a heart transplant—we facilitate care through our unique collaboration with UW Medicine Regional Heart Center, the centralized heart and lung resource for the Pacific Northwest.
Holter Monitoring
A Holter monitor is a continuous tape recording of a patient's EKG (or heart rhythm) for 24 hours. Since it can be worn during your regular daily activities, it helps the physician match symptoms of dizziness, palpitations (a sensation of fast or irregular heart rhythm) or black outs with the heart rhythm. Since the recording covers 24 hours, on a continuous basis, Holter monitoring is much more likely to detect an abnormal heart rhythm when compared to the EKG which lasts less than a minute. It can also help evaluate the patient's heart during episodes of chest pain, during which time there may be telltale changes to suggest ischemia (pronounced is-keem-ya) or reduced blood supply to the muscle of the heart.
Much like standard electrocardiography (ECG), the Holter monitor records electrical signals from the heart via a series of electrodes attached to the chest. The number and position of electrodes varies by model, but most Holter monitors employ between three and eight. These electrodes are connected to a small piece of equipment that is attached to your belt, and is responsible for keeping a log of the heart's electrical activity throughout the recording period.
Harrison does not provide Holter monitoring directly but offers this through our partner cardiology groups at Kitsap Cardiology Consultants and The Doctor’s Clinic.
Thoracic & Vascular Surgery
Our specialists focus entirely on vascular and thoracic treatments, resulting in the most intensive experience in the specialty. With advanced technology—such as endovascular stent graft repair—less invasive treatments are more often a possibility. We are proud to offer our region such a high level of sophisticated service in a program affiliated with the University of Washington, where our board-certified vascular and thoracic surgeons also are members of the teaching faculty.

Harrison’s Intensive Care and Progressive Care units provide the high level of care and attention you need throughout your stay to support your full recovery.
