SANE
A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner is a registered nurse trained to provide care to sexual assault patients. Harrison SANE nurses are available 24 hours a day to care for pediatric and adult sexual assault victims. They conduct forensic examinations and can serve as expert witnesses.
SANE nurses work directly with police, prosecutors, child protective services, and community advocacy programs to provide coordinated care, such as emergency care after sexual assault; scheduled medical exams from non-acute sexual assault; and forensic exams for medical, legal, and child welfare professionals.
Harrison’s SANE Program makes it possible for victims of sexual assault to receive prompt and compassionate emergency care from medical professionals who understand victimization. It also speeds up the evidence-gathering process by reducing the time victims would traditionally wait in the hospital’s Emergency Department and the time it takes to complete the exam.
Prevention and Education
Harrison provides referrals to community agencies as well as education and information about normal sexual development and the prevention of sexual abuse for all ages.
